Chronology of cameras Kodak

Traduction de Sylvain Halgand

If Kodak could forge a popular image quickly, it is because the policy of Eastman was to sell very little expensive cameras , in order to better be able to sell film to the amateurs. Who says camera not expensive to the sale, known as thin manufacturing costs. “The Brownie” is the illustration of this policy. It is made of paperboard and does not have a finder. The first model of “The Brownie”, in February 1900, opens and is closed like a shoe box. It is enough to encase a lid on the back face. From March, the back face is assembled on hinge and a bolt with slide is added on the higher edge to maintain it closed.
A removable finder (what explains why this accessory is very rare today) is proposed in option as from July 1900. Failing this, it is necessary to be satisfied to viewfind by using the features positioned in X above the camera (hardly visible on the photograph).

The key which makes it possible to advance film is made to be removed between two operations. There too, it is about a part difficult to find.

This camera uses films of format 117. It was manufactured in 1900 and 1901.
